Chapter Chatter Book Club

Wednesday, September 18th at 4:30 pm

The Chapter Chatter Book Club will be discussing Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer by Kelly Jones; Sophie and her parents move to a farm after inheriting it from a great uncle. When a cranky chicken who can move objects with her mind appears, farm life gets a lot more interesting. Children in grades 2-5 are invited to the library to discuss the book and participate in related activities. Attendees should have read the book before the meeting and bring the book with them; copies will be available at the library.

Art Time

Thursdays at 10:30 am

Children and their grownups are invited to get their creative juices flowing with process art activities. Each week we will experiment with different artistic techniques and materials as we create beautiful artwork for you to bring home. The 6-week session of Art Time will begin on September 19th. Open to children 18 months - 5 years with caregivers.

Explorer’s Club: All About Fingerprints

Saturday, September 21st at 11:30 am

Children in grades K-4 are invited to the library to learn all about their own unique fingerprints. We will be examining our fingerprints, learning how to lift other people’s fingerprints off of surfaces, and creating fun fingerprint magnets to bring home.

Graphic Novel Book Club

Thursday, September 26th at 4 pm

This month’s selection is Art Club by Rashad Doucet; Dale Donavan wants nothing more than to doodle, play video games, and create comics forever – maybe even as a full-time job one day. The trouble is, the adults around him are less than supportive, so Dale comes up with the perfect plan: an after-school art club – but there’s a catch. The school will only allow the club if it is financially successful by the end of the semester. Young people in grades 5-8 are invited to the library to discuss the book and participate in related activities. Attendees should have read the book before the meeting and bring the book with them; copies will be available at the library.

Homeschool Program: Fire Safety

Tuesday, October 1st  at 1 pm

Join Sterling Firefighter Fil Santos as he addresses fire safety concepts with our homeschool community kids. Appropriate for ages 5 and up. This hour long program will address: What are emergencies and 911? Smoke alarm review. What to do when you hear them?  How to make an escape plan with your family. Questions welcome. Please come and participate and stay afterwards to play and visit with some of your friends.

Sculpture Club

Wednesday, October 2nd at 4:30 pm

Children in grades k-5 are invited to our first session of Sculpture Club. Every month we will meet up to create new sculptures out of a different type of material. October’s sculptures will be made out of air dry clay. Participants are encouraged to express their inner artist, and bring their creations home to share with friends and family.

Picture Book Club

Wednesday, October 9th at 4:30 pm

The Picture Book Club will be reading Bruce and the Legend of Soggy Hollow by Ryan T. Higgins. Come spend time with friends as we read and discuss the book, and a few more. This month we will explore our dramatic side as we play a few games, and act out the book. Books can be checked out at the library (participants do not need to bring their copy to the meeting). Open to children in grades K-2.

Half-Day Art Afternoon

Thursday, October 10th from 1pm to 4 pm

Kids of all ages are invited to brighten up the WRSD early dismissal day on Thursday, October 10th with art at the library. Drop by and explore your creativity with stickers, coloring, painting, and more.

When street magician Carter runs away, he never expects to find friends and magic in a sleepy New England town. Things change instantly when Carter teams up with five other illusionists to save the town of Mineral Wells from the greedy B.B. Bosso and his crew of crooked carnies. Children in grades 2-5 are invited to the library to discuss the book and participate in related activities, and maybe even learn a bit of magic themselves. Family Trivia Night

Wednesday, October 16th at 6:30 pm

Calling all trivia lovers: It’s family trivia night! Gather your closest friends and family to create your own super team and show off your collective knowledge.

Family Life-Size Battleship 

Saturday, October 19th at 11 am

Families are invited to the library to play a few games of team Battleship, but with a twist. Each team will position its members as part of one of its battleships. The team with the last players standing wins. We will combine and create teams on the spot, so don’t worry if you don’t have a full team when you sign up!

Plastic Milk

Wednesday, October 23rd at 4:30 pm

Children in grades K-4 are invited to turn milk into plastic! The plastic will be a soft dough at first, so we can knead, color, and shape it into fun creations to bring home. Within 48 hours, your creations will harden into fun keepsakes.

Kid’s Halloween No-Bake
