Date Night at the Library

Book a novel evening at the library with your partner with the Conant Public Library’s new date nights!  Grab your partner and stop into the library during open hours, pick up your date night packet at the front desk, and have fun! Date night tasks can all be accomplished within the library within an hour or two! Second dates are also available!

Slackers Book Club

September 1st - September 30th

Slackers Book Club is a self service book club open to all readers. Stop by each month and pick up a copy of the most recent selection at the circulation desk. The book for September is The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. There are no formal meetings, no questions to answer, no deadlines. It’s a dream for Slackers!  You may love the book …or you may not! If you insist on doing something, we will have some special Slackers bookmarks available with the books.

Author Presentation: Left for Dead: shipwreck, treachery and survival at the edge of the world

Wednesday, September 18th at 6:30pm

Join author Eric Jay Dolin at the Sterling Senior Center, 36 Muddy Pond Road, as he presents his newest book, Left for Dead: shipwreck, treachery and survival at the edge of the world. In Left for Dead, Dolin explores seafaring adventures of the early 1800s, including the lives of castaway sailors over their 18-month ordeal. This program is generously sponsored by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Digestive Issues

Thursday, September 19th at 6:30 pm

Please join Meri Jo, Sterling resident, LSW, Nutrition Response Testing Practitioner and Certified Whole Health Educator as she discusses digestive disorders. Digestive disorders are on the rise, and it’s common to hear our friends share their maladies. What is happening to us, as humans, that our digestive tracts are so dysfunctional? There are many reasons for this and Meri Jo will address some of them and take questions from participants. (Please note that Meri Jo is not a medical doctor and if you are having significant issues, she and we recommend contacting your doctor.)

The Classics Book Club will discuss Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Copies of the book will be available at the library.

Join us for an hour of suspense or laughter, mystery or drama, while we listen to old-time radio shows together, over a cup of coffee or tea. Prepare to relive old memories and make new ones with library friends!  Fun for adults of all ages. Dementia friendly program and setting.

September Cookbook Club

Wednesday, September 25th at 6:30 pm

Discover healthy but delicious recipes at the Conant Public Library's Cookbook Club! Join us as we sample nutrient-dense, flexible recipes from The Noom Kitchen. Choose a recipe from the cookbook, prepare it at home, then bring it to the library to share with others. Cookbooks are available at the library for checkout; please let us know which recipe you have chosen so we can avoid duplicates.

Samatha Meditation

Thursday, September 26th from 6-7:30 pm

Everyone ages 14 plus, please join us for a Samatha Meditation class at the 1835 Town Hall.  Samatha means calm. Through this meditation practice, the aim is to move the mind into calm and stillness while remaining alert and awake. By placing mindfulness on the breath, joy and concentration will be cultivated. By practicing over time, the chattering, unruly mind settles down and we begin to understand more about the mental habits that keep us from happiness, freedom, and understanding.  Please bring a yoga mat or thick towel to sit on as participants will be on the floor, as you are able.

Nights are getting colder but the kitchen is heating up! Join us as we enjoy a Soup-er Supper- every participant will bring their favorite prepared soup or chili to share with others! Prepare your dish at home, then join us to discover more delicious recipes to keep you warm all winter long. October Adult Craft

Tuesday, October 1st at  6:30 pm or Thursday, October 3rd at 1 pm

Please join other crafters to make your own stuffed fabric pumpkins. Make a variety of sizes and colors, depending on your space. You will be thrilled with the results of this easy and fun craft!

Isabella Stewart Gardner Heist Presentation: An Unsolved Mystery

Thursday, October 3rd at 6:30 pm

Has anyone seen $500 million in art lying around Boston? An hour or so after 1990 St. Patrick’s Day ended, two men dressed as Boston cops entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, stayed for about 90 minutes, and left with 13 pieces of art. None of the priceless items have been found. Bob Ainsworth, author of Duped, a fictional account of the robbery, will review the actual details of the theft, the suspects, and the motives behind the world’s most valued art theft at The Sterling Senior Center. This program is sponsored by the Mass Cultural Council.

Fit Lit Book Club

Saturday, October 5th at 8:00 am (weather permitting)

Start your day with a fun book discussion and some exercise! The Fit Lit Book Club will meet at the Cider Mill entrance of the Sterling Rail Trail. Participants should read Help Wanted by Adelle Waldman prior to the walk. We will enjoy a discussion of this funny, moving tale of ordinary people trying to make a living as we walk. Books are available at the library for checkout.

Adult No-Bake Dessert

Monday, October 7th at 1:00 pm

Enjoy all the flavors of fall at the Adult No-Bake Dessert program! Adults are invited to make their own delicious Apple Cinnamon Oreo Delight at the library. All supplies are provided for making this tasty treat!

Murder Mystery

Please join us for Death by Chocolate, a mystery set in 1900’s Paris. You and your friends will help solve the murder by listening to clues and sizing up the characters sitting right next to you! Prizes for best costume and best actor, so come ready to play! And of course, there’s chocolate!

Looking for a fun way to discover new recipes? Join us as we enjoy a Stuffed Supper- every participant should bring a “stuffed” dish from home - the possibilities are endless with stuffed chicken, peppers, shells, even cookies! Making Medicare Easy

Please join us for a presentation “Making Medicare Easy” with Scott Maibor. Scott will be discussing everything you wanted to know about Medicare since open enrollment is coming up in December! His talk will include: 2025 Part D changes due to the Inflation Reduction Act, Understanding Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D, Navigating Medicare Advantage Plans, Carrier and Plan Changes, Medicare Supplement Plans, Enrollment and Appeals Processes.
